Mexican Navy

The Mexican Navy (official name SEMAR) is a branch of the Mexican Military responsible for conducting naval operations. Its stated mission is "to use the naval force of the federation for the exterior defense, and to help with intern order"[1]. The Mexican Navy consists of over 30,000 men and women, as of over 300 ships, and 70 aircraft all of them serving Mexico. Since the 2000's The Mexican Navy has entered a constant modernization program, in order to upgrade its response capability. For Mexico's huge mass of water the importance of it's navy is really decisive, mainly to protect PEMEX's oil wells in Campeche over the Mexican Gulf. Another important task of Mexican Navy, is to help people in hurricane relief operations, applying "Plan Marina" (Navy plan) in order to help affected people.

The commander in chief of all military forces in Mexico is the president. And the person in charge of the Mexican Navy is the Navy Secretary who as of 2006 is Marco Antonio Peyrot Gonzlez. The Mexican Navy is divided into two main forces, Gulf's naval force (Fuerza Naval del Golfo) and Pacific's naval force (Fuerza Naval del Pacifico) both of them equally important

The navy, mainly consist of surface ships, with few aircraft. Since some time to the date, Mexican Navy has showed a lot of interest in acquiring supersonic fighters[2] , and also bigger transpor ships, as two Austin class ships[3]
