[edit] Need for an update

I think that it's about time that people started updating information on this page, in particular relating to road closings (not to mention the amusement park in Pennsylvania). I'd do it myself but don't have access to the final results of the flooding and don't want to remove anything important inadvertantly. --Massimo377 06:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I've been looking for information, except all of the media sources have moved on. The report from the National Weather Service might not be for another two months! Any ideas? —Twigboy 12:39, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
This site still has a whole section that contains all the articles the paper wrote throughout the flood and afterwards. It might be helpful. Newnam(talk) 18:32, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Mid-Atlantic" is ambiguous

The title of this article has been troubling me. When I read "mid-Atlantic flood", the image that springs immediately to mind is of a flood occurring in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean - ie, misleading and nonsensical (though somewhat amusing). Even assuming it's describing a conventional land-based flood, there's still plenty of places in the world that could be described as "mid-Atlantic." How about calling it the eastern United States flood of June 2006 instead? Much less ambiguous that way. I'd boldly do it myself, but since this is a current event undergoing a lot of activity I figured I'd check to see if there would be calls for my head first. Bryan 04:54, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

The name refers to the Mid-Atlantic States region.--Pharos 06:52, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
So Mid-Atlantic States flood of June 2006, then? Bryan 06:57, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Mid-Atlantic is often used unqualified ("Mid-Atlantic" -states gets 22.7 milllion ghits), so I don't think it's really necessary. We should, though, probably mention the region name in the intro.--Pharos 07:04, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
People would be much less confused if we changed it to Mid-Atlantic States flood of June 2006. bob rulz 08:22, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

It shouldn't really be mid-Atlantic anyways, since flooding extended into the northeast as well. I suggest moving to Northeastern United States flood of June 2006 (shouldn't flood not be capitalized as well?). --tomf688 (talk - email) 15:34, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I've decapitalized it in both my proposals so far. I figured that was more of a minor housekeeping things. As for your proposal, sounds good to me - it resolves the giggle factor that drew my initial comment. Bryan 15:41, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I moved the article to a new title. I changed "Mid-Atlantic" to "Eastern", since it was along a large portion of the Eastern United States outside of just the Mid-Atlantic. I also changed "Flood" to "flooding", since it wasn't just one big flood and it shouldn't be capitalized, and I added "United States" for context. --tomf688 (talk - email) 20:25, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm not certain that the change of title is appropriate. All of the places affected are in an area that is not always, but most of the time considered Mid-Atlantic. Since a majority of the Eastern US wasn't flooded, the title is most confusing. Also, flooding is probably the wrong word to use, as this article is about the flood, so "flood" should be used (as it is in every other flood article). I don't want to change the title back until I get more opinion though. And as mentioned above flood should not be capitalized. Newnam 23:34, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
I find myself in agreement with Newnam here. While it is true that the "Mid-Atlantic", like most regions, is somewhat ambiguously defined, the name adds significant meaning to the article title that is just absent with "Eastern". The extent of the flood does pretty well match the broad definition of this region.--Pharos 05:14, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I hope to not upset people, but I'm going to move the article to Mid-Atlantic States flood of 2006. The June part is unneccesary unless another flood in the Mid-Atlantic region occurs again this year...after that, the title can be moved again. What do people think Newnam 17:25, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I re-added "United" to the title since people not familiar with the mid-Atlantic region of the United States may not understand what "Mid-Atlantic States" are. --tomf688 (talk - email) 01:53, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Floods in the United States

A new page has been created to address flooding events across the United States over history. This page was added to the end of the article. Thegreatdr 16:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tense changes

Wording in this article needs changed to past-tense, bigtime, as it is no longer a current event. I took care of some of it in the PA section, but even that I didn't finish. Search4Lancer 20:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
