Warring Africans were the ones who sold captured prisoners to the Europeans. The Europeans knew little about the interior of Africa at that time. They held ports so that Africans could bring them prisoners.
We're talking about the middle passage in my history class and i think that the Africans who stayed behind should take a great part of the blame for the slave trade and also that the unofficial reason why there was a civil war in America should be taken into account when racial issues are discussed because technically it was over whether slavery was right-i am African.
The difference in how warring tribes treated their captives turned slaves is elucidated upoon as being similiar to the treatment of indentured servants. The biggest difference is that 3 Million Africans did not suffer to death in the Middle Passage as slaves in the continent of Africa. It would be interesting to analyze the motivation of many people to continually justify slavery through inaccurate comparisons to captives of intertribal warfare.
