Nasty Suicide

Nasty Suicide (born Jan Stenfors, September 4, 1963) is the ex-rhythm guitarist for Hanoi Rocks, a Finnish outfit, who combined elements of punk, heavy metal, rock, and blues. After the breakup of Hanoi, he and former bandmate Andy McCoy recorded an acoustic album under the name of The Suicide Twins. Nasty went on to form Cheap And Nasty. Afterwards, he released one album under his own name. He is currently working as a pharmacist (M. Sci. Pharm.).

SCHOOL BOYS - Helsinki, Finland In the 1970`s Jan "Nasse" Stenfors and Antti "Andy" Hulkko met each other at the comprehensive school and became bosom buddies. They hanged around together and also started their musical cooperation performing at several school events. Few years later their cooperation continued, only the names were changed: Antti Hulkko turned into Andy McCoy and Jan Stenfors turned into Nasty Suicide...
BRIARD - Helsinki, Finland 1979 The first Finnish punk rock group Briard was originally Pete Malmi's and Andy's band, but for some reason Andy quit with the band and Nasty was the man to replace him. Nasty played on these Briard recordings: - Rockin' On The Beach / Miss World 7" single (Love Records LRS 2266) - Five songs on Metropolis live compilation (Johanna Records JHNCD 2011) - A song called "Philosiphy" on Hilse-LP One (Hilselevyt YÄK 01)

HANOI ROCKS - 1980-1985 Hanoi Rocks were formed in Helsinki in 1979 by schoolfriends Andy McCoy (born Antti Hulkko) on lead guitar and Nasty Suicide (Jan Stenfors) on rhythm guitar. They later added vocalist and saxophone player Michael Monroe (Matti Fagerholm), bass player Sam Yaffa (Sami Takamäki), and drummer Gyp Casino (Jesper Sporre). In 1981 they moved to Stockholm and in 1982 to London to take advantage of the livelier music scene in these cities. Later that year, Casino was fired and replaced by Nicholas 'Razzle' Dingley. FALLEN ANGELS - London, England 1984 The whole Hanoi Rocks backed Knox (ex-Vibrators & ex-Urban Dogs) on the Fallen Angels' debut album. On Fallen Angels' second album In Loving memory only Andy and Nasty took part of the recordings. On the last album Wheel of fortune (released in 1989) the only Hanoi member was Nasty who also played with the live line-up on few gigs in London.

SUICIDE TWINS - Helsinki, Finland 1985 The Suicide Twins was set up by Andy McCoy and Nasty Suicide after the break-up of Hanoi Rocks. The band managed to record only one album, "Silver Missiles And Nightingales".
CHERRY BOMBZ - London, England 1985-1987 This band was lead by Andy McCoy with Nasty Suicide on Guitar, Anita Chellemah on Vocals, Dave Tregunna on Bass and Terry Chimes on Drums. THE GANGBANG BAND - London, England 1987 Gangbang band was formed by Nasty, Rene Berg, Buttz (Babysitters), Spike (Quireboys), Dumpy, Bernie Tormé and Smash. They did one 12" single and the title song was Bangbang by Alex Harvey. For some reason Nasty wanted his name to be removed from the sleeve.
WEIRD THINGS / WEST END CENTRAL / SOHO VULTURES - London, UK 1987 After Gangbang band Nasty, Dave Tregunna and Terry Chimes formed Weird Things with James Vane and Cliff Crawell. Nasty split the band after differences with Crawell. Then he formed West End Central with Dave Tregunna, Rene Berg and drummer Smash. Soon Dave left the band and was replaced by Dougie from Idle Flowers. This line-up did few gigs as the Weird Things and then changed its name to West End Central. A bit later Dougie was replaced by Tommy Fox. WEC did few gigs and changed to Soho Vultures. After a short tour in Finland they broke up. It is possible to find some demos made by Soho Vultures.
MICHAEL MONROE - USA 1989 (More details on DISCOGRAPHIES section) After Soho Vultures broke up Nasty moved to the States where he helped Michael Monroe with the Not Fakin' It album and also toured with Michael's band
CHEAP AND NASTY - Los Angeles, USA 1990 In L.A. Nasty met his old friend Timo Kaltio (ex-Hanoi Rocks, ex-Cherry Bombz) and they had plans to form a new band. They played with several L.A. based musicians to find the right guys for this group. They found drummer Les Riggs and bass player Mike Finn. This line-up made few gigs in California. Somehow the US authorities found out that Nasty didn't have a work permit the USA and he had no choice but to take the first flight back to Europe.
CHEAP AND NASTY - London, England 1991-1994 So Nasty went back to London and thought "that was Cheap and Nasty then...". Timo and Les followed him to London and they got Nasty's friend Alvin Gibbs (ex-UK.Subs/ex-Urban Dogs/ex-Iggy Pop band) to play bass guitar. Their first album Beautiful Disaster was released in March 1991. Cheap and Nasty toured in Europe and in Japan between the years 1991 and 1994. For a period Nasty was member of Michael Monroe's Demolition 23.. The last Cheap And Nasty Album Cool Talk Injection was released in 1994. In the same year Nasty quit with the band.
JOHNNY THUNDERS TRIBUTE - London, England 1993 Nasty, Michael Monroe and Sam Yaffa played on Johnny Thunders tribute LP.
DEMOLITION 23 - 1994 What started as Michael Monroe's intent to put together a 'real' band became the closest thing to a Hanoi Rocks reunion ever, with three of the original members playing together minus Andy McCoy . Although Nasty did not record anything with Demolition 23, he joined them for tour support when original guitarist Jay Hening had problems to travel. He later declared, to the surprise of everyone, including Michael Monroe, that he was a permanent member, during a press conference. When the tour ended he quit the band to study to become a Pharmacist. JAN STENFORS - Helsinki, Finland since 1995 In 1995 Nasty moved back to Finland and felt that he isn't that nasty anymore and began to use his real name Jan Stenfors. Jan went back to high school to finish his studies and gratuated in 1996. In the same year he released an album called Vinegar Blood and toured in Finland and for few gigs in Japan with his brother Frej Stenfors on the drums, Sami Yaffa on the bass and Puka Oinonen on the second guitar. In 1996 and 1997 he did few acoustic gigs with Puka Oinonen. Today he plays lullabys to his daughter and studies to become a provisor in Dept. of Pharmacology at the University of Helsinki.
