National Treasure 2 is a 2007 sequel to the 2004 film National Treasure. It will be directed by Jon Turteltaub and written primarily by Gregory Poirier. As of January 27, 2006, several producers have been listed.
It was stated in the first film's commentary that there were no plans for a sequel, but, due to the first film's impressive box-office performance, an earning of $347.5 million worldwide, a sequel was given the go-ahead in 2005.
According to Jerry Bruckheimer, filming will begin on January 1, 2007. National Treasure 2 will be released on December 21, 2007.
[edit] Plot
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in July 2006 that the sequel involves Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, 18 pages which are actually missing from Booth's diary, (and a surprise ending). He also said, "This is a wonderful jumping off point for NT1, and Nicolas Cage is very excited about it."
[edit] Characters
Jon Turteltaub stated in this article that Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel, and Jon Voight will all return. He also said, "Everyone's back except anyone who's in jail or died," suggesting that Sean Bean may not reprise his role as Ian Howe. However, some speculate that this is a trick and Bean will make a surprise appearance in NT2.[citation needed]
