The National emblems of the Russian Empire were the state coat of arms and the state seal in three variants: big, medium and small. Quite often the Russian state seals are incorrectly called "coats of arms".

[edit] State Coat of Arms
The Russian State Coat of Arms (Российский Государственный герб) is a golen escutcheon with black two-headed eagle crowned with two imperial crowns, over which the same third crown, enlarged, with two flying ends of the ribbon of the Order of Saint Andrew. The State Eagle holds golden scepter and golden Globus cruciger. On the chest of the Eagle there is Saint George, mounted and degeating the Serpent.

[edit] Medium State Seal
The Medium State Seal is similar to the Big State Seal, with excluded khorugv and the six upper escutcheons with joined coats of arms of princedoms and oblasts. The Abbreviated Imperial Title is inscribed over the perimeter of the Seal.
