New Jersey Route 171
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Route 171 is a state highway in New Jersey, United States. It is an extension of U.S. Route 130 past its northern terminus at U.S. Route 1 in North Brunswick, New Jersey. Its northern terminus is at an intersection with Route 27 in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
[edit] History
The route that is now Route 171 was first given a number in 1934 as Route 25M as a spur of what was then Route 25 (current US 130). In 1935, US 130 was extended north from Trenton along its current alignment and current Route 171, and the road was known as both Route 25M and U.S. Route 130. In the 1953 renumbering, the "25M" designation was dropped to avoid the concurrency. In 1963, US 130 was truncated to its current terminus at US 1, and the current designation of Route 171 was applied.
