Nimzo-Indian, Saemisch variation

In chess, E24 is the ECO code for the Nimzo-Indian, Saemisch variation chess opening. The game begins 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.a3 Bxc3+ 5.bxc3. The diagrammed position covers the ECO codes E24-E29. E24 covers all Black's responses except the continuation 5...0-0 and 5...c5 (though it does include the Botvinnik Variation: 5...c5 6.f3 d5 7.e3 0-0 8.cxd5 Nxd5). White has a strong center and the bishop pair. Black wants to exchange pieces in order to diminish White's attack and capitalize on the pawn weakness.
