Nuclear Waste Policy Act

The Nuclear Waste Policy Act is a United States federal law enacted in 1982. It established a national program for disposal of highly radioactive wastes, and resulted in the studying of Yucca Mountain as a possible site for long-term disposal of radioactive waste.
