Obed Benjamin Sullivan, born January 17, 1968 in Gulfport, MS, was a heavyweight boxer. Nicknamed "The Fighting Marine", Sullivan was a journeyman fighter who fought many signifant fighters of his era.
Sullivan turned pro in 1992 and fought and typically beat many journeyan fighters, setting up a bout with rising prospect Hasim Rahman in 1997. Sullivan held his own and lost a majority decision, but built up credibility as a worthy heavyweight. After the loss to Rahman, several high profile bouts surfaced, and Sullivan fought and lost to Michael Grant, Jesse Ferguson, and Derrick Jefferson. Despite the losses, he had a string of victories against minor opposition in 1999, positioning himself for a shot at WBO Heavyweight Title holder Vitali Klitschko in 1999. Klitschko dominated, and Sullivan failed to answer the bell for Round 10. In 2000, Sullivan was destroyed by David Tua in a 1st round KO, eliminating any chances at a future title shot. He later drew with Larry Donald and lost to Fres Oquendo, retiring in 2004.
