OFC Women's Championship
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The OFC Women's Championship (also known as the Oceania Cup) is a competition in women's football for national teams which belong to the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). 7 tournaments have been held, with the current champions being Australia, though the Matildas will not be able to defend their title in 2007 as the team now competes in the Asian Football Confederation.
The competition has served as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women's World Cup since 1991. In 2007, the competition will take place in Papua New Guinea for the second time. Each OFC team with the exception of American Samoa are currently scheduled to take part in the event, including first-time appearances by Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, and Vanuatu.
