Opal Dream (also known as Pobby and Dingan) is a 2006 Australian drama film, based on the Ben Rice's novella Pobby and Dingan, directed by Peter Cattaneo and starring an ensemble cast including Vince Colosimo, Jacqueline McKenzie, Christian Byers and Sapphire Boyce. It was filmed on location around South Australia, in Adelaide, Coober Pedy and Woomera. Opal Dream was released in Australia on 28 September 2006, with eventual release around the world.

[edit] Plot
Pobby and Dingan live in Lightning Ridge, the fictional opal capital of Australia. They are friends with Kellyanne Williamson, the daughter of opal miner Rex Williamson - but only Kellyanne can see them. Pobby and Dingan are imaginary. Kellyanne's brother, Ashmol, thinks his sister should grow up and stop being such a fruit-loop - until the day when Pobby and Dingan disappear, the same day that his father is accused of ratting, the worst sin an opal miner can commit.
As Kellyanne, grief-stricken, begins to fade away, Ashmol recruits the whole town in the search for Pobby and Dingan. In the end, however, he discovers that only he can find them, and he can only find them if he too begins to believe they are real.

Although not yet commerically released, the film has had some early critical success at various international film festivals, including the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival and the 2006 Melbourne International Film Festival. Opal Dream is currently vying for nominations for the 2006 AFI Awards.[1]
