Patuakhali is a district in South-western Bangladesh. It is a part of the Barisal Division.

This district is called "SagorKonna" means daughter of sea. It is watered by the Bay of Bengal.

There are 7 Upazila/Thana in this district. They are Bauphal, Patuakhali sador, Mirzagonj, Dasmina, Kolapara, Golachipa and Dumki. Bauphal is one of the most eduacated Upazila in Bangladesh.

Agriculture is the profession of the most of the people. Fishing is also prominant profession of this district. Thousands of boats go into the deep sea to fish and come back with tons of fish. Paddy, Jute, different types of vegetables are the main product of agriculture sector.

One of the most interesting sea beach named "Kuakata" ia in this district. Sunset and Sunrise can be observed from this sea beach. This is a rare case in the world that you can watch sunset and sunrise being in the same sea beach. There are lot of tribes people live in this district. Those people are originated from Myanmar and south-eartern part of India. The majority of them are "Mogg" and "Chakma". You can get different taste of beauty being close contact of their life style. Patuakhali University of Science and Technology is in the Dumki Upazila in this district. It is a new but very good university for agriculture and IT education.
