- Another Pic du Midi is the Pic du Midi de Bigorre.
A peak of the Pyrenees, Pic du Midi d'Ossau is not particularly high; neither does it boast a glacier or permanent snow fields. However, with its distinctive and unique shape it is instantly recognisable and its identifiability must be on a par with the Matterhorn.
The Pic du Midi, or Jean Pierre, stands aloof above the Ossau valley, supremely isolated from any neighbouring peaks. Its rocky monolithic form offers a multitude of serious sporting ascents, none of which should be underestimated. Even the voie normale is a serious scrambling route verging, at times, on a PD grading.
