IMDb profile |
Play Misty for Me is a 1971 thriller film, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. The film was Eastwood's directorial debut.
Eastwood plays David "Dave" Garver, a radio disc jockey who becomes the target of Evelyn Draper, an obsessed female fan, played by Jessica Walter. Donna Mills also appeared as Garver's sometime girlfriend, Tobie.
The title comes from Draper's habit of phoning in to Garver's radio show and asking him to play the song "Misty".
The film paved the way for such later stalker films as Fatal Attraction. It is also notable for the use of location shooting in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, where Eastwood has long made his home and where he would be elected Mayor on April 8, 1986 with 72% of the vote. The film also features Roberta Flack's recording of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."
