[edit] Assyrian politics
Is this central enough to Politics of Iraq to be on this template? It's not even a section in the main article. AndrewRT 00:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Neither is the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. I say leave it on because it's an important political movement. -- Clevelander 00:32, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- The Regions of Iraq are very important to politics of Iraq. They are mentioned in the constitution and are an important political discussion (see section in Government of Iraq from 2006 for example). By contrast supporters of Assyrian independence do not have a single MP among 275 in the Iraqi parliament. --AndrewRT 11:58, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

- 5 MPs may be Assyrians. How many of them support the independence of Assyria? Perhaps those on the Kurdistani Alliance list? Or those on the United Iraqi Alliance list? --AndrewRT 19:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

- Well all 5 do support autonomy for the two districts of the Nineveh plains where Assyrians make the majority. Certainly not all support indepedence. And even the people themselves are not demaning independence, but autonomy. I tried to make this point in the talk page of that page and suggested the name of the page to be moved to something else.
