Myoprocta acouchy Erxleben, 1777 |
The Red Acouchi, Myoprocta acouchy, is a South American acouchy species from the Dasyproctidae family. It is found in Brazil and Colombia. This may be the same "red acouchi" (Myoprocta exilis) that not only hoards seeds, but chews off the protruding sprout to prevent germination (Jansen, Bongers & Prins, 2006).
