Talk:Regions of Mauritania
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
By breaking up the Regions of Mauritania and giving each region a separate entry, we virtually ensure that no region can be compared with any other region, that context is utterly lost, and that no one will ever actually consult these orphaned stubs. Why not begin with all regions redirected here, until the information just becomes too unwieldy? Wetman 18:43, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] province or region
The arabic term is wilayah. what translation is used officially? what is used in french? should we rename the regions to provinces like for other arab countries? It is also more clear that these are subnational entities if we use province. "region" can have other meanings

- In French, "regions" seems to be used ([1]), as in the CIA World Factbook. In Algeria, "wilaya" is normally left untranslated. I have no objection to renaming these, but "region" does seem to be commonly used. - Mustafaa 29 June 2005 17:24 (UTC)
[edit] Departments
As far as the suggestion of "merging" - I recommend no. Reason being is, the departments are subdivisions of the regions, and I just have to add the breakdown (with maps) of the various departments, by region. Cool? Rarelibra 14:37, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
