Right to Information (India)

Right to Information (RTI) is a law passed by the Indian government.
According to the Official website to Right to Information Act (India), this act includes the right to
- inspect works, documents, records.
- take notes, extracts or certified copies of documents or records.
- take certified samples of material.
- obtain information in form of printouts, diskettes, floppies, tapes, video cassettes or in any other electronic mode or through printouts.
RTI India came into force on the 12th October, 2005 and the act covers whole of India except the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian government planned to amend the RTI in 2006 but was compelled to abandon the changes due to public outcry. See news link .
