Robert Barrie

Sir Robert Barrie (5 May 1774 – 7 June 1841) was a British naval officer noted for his service in the War of 1812. Following the war, he became in 1819 the commissioner of the dockyard at Kingston, Upper Canada, thereby becoming the senior naval officer in the Canadas. The city of Barrie, Ontario is named in his honour. He was married on 24 October 1816 to Julia Wharton Ingilby.
Barrie had served as a midshipman during Captain George Vancouver's 1791 voyage of exploration along the Pacific coast of North America. Barrie was promoted to Lieutenant upon the return of Vancouver's expedition in October 1795.
