[edit] Polical Views
Humphries is self identified strong family oriented Christian Conservative. He does not believe in homosexual marriage or unions. He strongly opposes Illegal Mexican Immigration in the USA but supports legal immigration and a guarded wall on the U.S. border with Mexico. He strongly opposes abortions and people who tend to know what they are talking about.
[edit] Personal life
Rusty is a singer/songwriter. In addition to writing more radio morning show jingles than anyone alive [not verified]. His song, Do The Bart Simpson, made national charts and was the inspiration for The Simpson's Multi-platinum CD[citation needed].
[edit] Criticism
Humphries, while a self-proclaimed supporter of veterans and current members of the armed forces, did not serve in the military himself. His explanation, as outlined in a famous tete a tete with a caller on Reno's KKOH radio station, was that his mother and grandmother begged him not to enlist. The legendary exchange between Rusty and the listener came shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Rusty was criticized for challenging local youths who didn't wish to serve in the military despite the events of 9/11. The caller pointed out that at the time, Rusty was still old enough to serve in the National Guard and should set an example by enlisting. [As of June, 2006 the Department of Defense has capped the age of enlistment at 42, which still makes Humphries eligible for service]
[edit] Misc.
On April 18, 2005, Humphries claimed to be the first nationally syndicated radio talk show host to visit Iraq. However, Al Franken broadcasted from Iraq while on a USO tour in 2005 . After hearing of this development, Rusty joked, "Well, I was the first nationally syndicated radio talk show host with listeners to visit Iraq." When in fact Al Franken has many more listeners then "stand up comedian" Rusty. He also once claimed to be abducted by Aliens "they tell me what to say on my radio show."
