In chess, C93 is the ECO code for the Ruy Lopez, Closed, Smyslov Defense chess opening. The game begins 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.e1 b5 7.Bb3 O-O 8.c3 d6 9.h3 h6. The idea behind Black's last move is to prevent a future pin on the f6 knight and move Black's rook to e8 and the bishop to f8, protecting the king and adding support to the center. White shortly plays d4 and moves the queen knight to e3 via d2 and f1. Svetozar Gligoric has been the most prolific C93 player.
