Sau Mau Ping
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sau Mau Ping (秀茂坪, Jyutping: Sau3 Mau6 Ping4, Pinyin: Xiùmàopíng) is an area in eastern New Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Its Chinese name was formerly So Mao Ping (蘇茅坪), but due to similar pronouncing ways, it's usually named So Mo Ping (掃墓坪), which means a place for ancestor visit. In the World War II, it was also used for a graveyard. The Chinese name was considered too bad for a residential area and thus was changed to current one, nice and prosperous.
Sau Mau Ping is one of early Kwun Tong new town in Hong Kong. Sau Mau Ping Estate is a major public housing estate in the area.
