[edit] Early life
Caan was born in Los Angeles, California to James Caan (a well-known actor) and Sheila Ryan, a lesser-known actress and former model; his paternal grandparents were Jewish refugees from Germany. His parents divorced a year after his birth; he has four half-siblings from his father's other marriages. Caan was a roadie for bands Cypress Hill and House of Pain, and a member of Hip-Hop group The Whooliganz (With producer and fellow Emcee, The Alchemist), before enrolling at the Playhouse West in Los Angeles.

Caan began acting in the late 1990s, appearing in a number of independent and low-budget films. His first appearance in a widely released film was his role as a Texas football player in the financially successful 1999 film, Varsity Blues. Caan subsequently appeared in a number of studio films, including co-starring with David Arquette in Ready To Rumble (2000) and playing 19th century outlaw Cole Younger opposite actor Colin Farrell in American Outlaws (2001).
In 2003, Caan made his directiorial debut with the film Dallas 362, which won a prize at the 2003 Las Vegas Film Festival.
Subsequently, Caan has appeared in several low-budget independent films, as well as the box office successes Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve. In 2005, Caan co-starred with actor Paul Walker (with whom he appeared in Varsity Blues) in the action film Into the Blue.

Caan has dated celebrity Kimberly Stewart, as well as models Megan Gallagher and Kim Verbeck.
