Simeon Baldwin

Simeon Baldwin (December 14, 1761-May 26, 1851).
He was born in Norwich, Connecticut, removed to New Haven.
Judge, US Congressman; Descended from John Baldwin who first settled in New Haven, CT in 1636; Studied with Rev. Joseph Huntington (Yale 1762); also later studied at the Master Tisdale's School in Lebanon, CT; He delivered the Latin oration in June, 1782, it is still preserved in the Yale University Library.
Tutor, Yale College, 1783-86; admitted to New Haven Bar, 1786; Clerk, City of New Haven, Connecticut, 1789-1800; Mayor, City of New Haven, 1826; US Congress, 1803-05; declined re-election, 1805; Judge, Superior Court of Connecticut, 1806-17; President; Farmington Canal Board of Trustees, (completed to Norhthampton, MA).
He died at 89 years old and was interred at Grove Street Cemetery.
Son-in-law of Roger Sherman, father of Connecticut Governor Roger Sherman Baldwin and the grandfather of Connecticut Governor Simeon Eben Baldwin.
