Skagarans
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Skagarans were an alien race in the fictional television series Star Trek: Enterprise who routinely kidnapped beings from other worlds and sold them as slaves. In the 19th century, Skaragans kidnapped hundreds of humans from Earth and brought them to one of their colony worlds, intending to use them as slave labor. However, the humans revolted, destroying the Skagaran ship and killing much of its crew. The surviving Skagarans ("Skags") became slaves themselves, as the humans were determined never to be oppressed ever again. Thus, a brutal system of laws was created to keep the Skags from ever rising above the level of menial laborers; this system was later abolished when Captain Jonathan Archer encouraged humans and Skags to live together in peace.
It is unclear why more Skagaran ships did not return to investigate the loss of one of their own craft; perhaps they considered it unimportant and not worth the effort, or the crew of the Skagaran ship may have been judged to be "weak" (since they inadvertently allowed their slaves to revolt and destroy the ship) and thus ignored by the rest of the Skagaran fleet.
The Skagarans may be related to the Briori, another alien race who also routinely kidnapped beings from other worlds - including Earth - to use as slaves. (In "The 37's", an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, a group of Earth humans are discovered living in a planet in the Delta Quadrant, the descendants of humans taken by the Briori in the 1930's.)
