Smoleńsk Voivodeship
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Smoleńsk Voivodeship (Polish: Województwo Smoleńskie) was a unit of administrative division and local government in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) since 15th century till the partitions of Poland in 1795. For most of that time it was a titular voivodeship, as the lands were not controlled by Poland. It was lost by Lithuania in 1514, recaptured by the Commonwealth in 1611 (confirmed by Truce of Deulino in 1618) and lost again in 1654 (confirmed by Treaty of Andrusovo in 1667).
