[edit] Parsi
Whether they see themselfs as Indian is irrelevant to the issue. On another subject if you truly see yourself as an Indian why do you have a persian name, a persian religion. Even though Parsis have lived in India for a long time, it may be easy for some to cast aside thousands of years of persian history and legacy and consider themselfs indian. But not for all; one of them is Freddie Mercury himself. --Spahbod ☼ 21:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
First of all i advice you not to make personal attacks. Second claiming sohrab is a Zoroastrian name is to put it in your own words ridiculous. Furthermore i didn't say because you have persian name you are persian, i suggest you read my post again, this time more carefully. However i do not wish to continue this discussion with you, please do not post any further comments on my talk page. --Spahbod ☼ 05:01, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cilivity
Make more personal attacks and you will find yourself blocked from editing in Wikipedia. Calling me cluless and other personal attacks, accusing me of vandalism! This is an encyclopedia, there is no room for claims of anything without source, if you have doubts about Parsis origin i suggest reading some books about them. Every claim have to backed with a reliable source, you can read about what is and what is not reliable here:[1]. I will now report you for being incivil, in the future try to behave civil instead of sending personal attacks. --Spahbod ☼ 05:46, 25 July 2006 (UTC) I forgot to mention, i never said Parsis are Persian, they are Parsis, and nothing more. Furthermore since Mr. bremmmen took it easy on you in spite of your attacks, i think you really need to know this that the words that you have used in your personal attacks: cluless, ridiculous, and f*****, does truly apply to yourself. --Spahbod ☼ 07:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, on that civility note, don't do this again. I know you redacted, but play nice, ok? - brenneman {L} 05:57, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, Having looked a little bit more at your contributions, consider this a stern civility warning. It's very easy for tempers to fray, and all-too easy to dash off a hot reply, but it is a pretty useless thing to do. The best way to make your case is with sources. - brenneman {L} 07:13, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Freddie
Your logic behind why he called himself Persian and not Parsee Indian is based on speculations. I’m not saying you’re wrong, however it is based on something that you’re speculating about Freddie and what he was thinking. The minute Freddie got a Persian funeral should be enough evidence of how important their Persian background was to them. Saying Freddie called himself Persian instead of an Indian Parsee due to racism or some foreign pressure is nothing but speculations.
I also don’t think, saying he was Persian takes away from his Parsee’s, Indian or British background. Klymen 16:54, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

- This is from the site you gave me. "Whether Faroukh, who insisted to his close friends that he was christened Faroukh and told the media he was of Persian descent, was embarrassed of his ethnic identity, we will never know." To him and many others his ethnic identity IS Persian. For you to assume it WAS cause he was embarrassed is speculation. Even the writer of this article who's pushing a pov is not concluding he was embarrassed of his Indian nationality. Klymen 17:40, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

- It is not a Persian Claim. It is a fact. I have given you citations from many creditable biographies of him. He was Persian, along with Indian and British. I alos noticed how you merged the two paragraphs. However I think doing so would take away from his Indian legacy. I don’t see why we have to mention his Persian background in the Indian paragraph when we can have two and keep everyone happy. Also in the Persian/Iranian Paragraph there are citations to back his Persian background. I could go and scan pages from books that would support the same thing. Please stop taking them out. [edit] Hi Sohrab
But you're interpreting the sources and that's against Wiki rules, it's called original research. Lets just leave both viewpoints and let the reader decide. The paragraph already explains that he's Indian and Parsi and the Persian tile is simply because of his Parsi background.
By the way, what do you think of the early life section? It was originally "Indian Parsis, who practised the ancient Persian religion of Zoroastrianism" but I re-phrased it to "Indian Parsis; Zoroastrians of Persian descent" because being a Parsi is not just about religion, it's also an ethnic identity. Any thoughts? --Mardavich 15:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] link to Persian
When you want to link to the article about something Persian, please do not link to Persian, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as Persian people, Persian language, or Iran, by writing out [[Persian language|Persian]] or [[Iran|Persian]]. [edit] I reinstated some text that had been deleted from Freddie Mercury
Can you take another look at it (especially the difference between your version and the one I restored) and see if there's anything that should be changed? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 07:49, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
