Greek, σωτήρ (initial capitalised, Σωτήρ; fully capitalised ΣΩΤΗΡ), saviour. As such, title given to:
- Jesus, most particularly in the fish acronym
- Pope Soter
- Heroized leaders of Hellenistic dynasties

When a leader had freed or saved a city from oppression, siege, taxes etc., one way of revering him whilst still alive (alongside hero cult and deification) was to give him the title soter.
