South West Rocks is located on the coast near the mouth of the Macleay River, on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is approximately 40 km away from Kempsey. It is also situated approximately halfway between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour along the coast. The small village of Jerseyville is located just out of South West Rocks on South West Rocks Road.
South West Rocks is fast becoming a popular seaside town. Situated approximately 5 hours from both Sydney and Brisbane, South West Rocks is an ideal place to meet with friends and family.
The population of South West Rocks has a static population of approximately 6000 people, increasing during the holiday season. Many tourists are attracted to South West Rocks due to its beautiful scenery, and many beaches. Tourist Attractions also include Trial Bay Gaol and Smoky Cape Lighthouse.
Trial Bay (which is the bay South West Rocks faces), is one of the few north facing bay(s) on the Australian East Coast.

South West Rocks is located within the Macleay Valley, with Kempsey Shire Council being its local government area.

South West Rocks has a weekly news paper The South West Rocks News which comes as a cover page to Tuesday edition of the Kempsey The Macleay Valley Argus. A weekly free paper and magazine are home delivered every Wednesday to households within the Macleay Valley Shire and Nambucca Shire.

South West Rocks' main street is Prince Of Wales Avenue, which overlooks Horseshoe Bay and out over the ocean. The main street is home to four real estate agents, a newsagent, a chemist, a Four Square supermarket, Centrelink, a pub, Eagle Boys Pizza, post office, two banks and other specialty and food shops.

Development in the town has increased over the past few years, with a new shopping centre The Rocks Shopping Fair opening in 2002, and a new subdivision, Oceanside, being opened up around it. The Rocks Shopping Fair has a Bi-Lo supermarket and Crazy Clarks Discount Store, plus 10 other specialty shops and a doctors surgery. There is also an IGA and two petrol stations on Gregory St.
South West Rocks is nominally divided into four main areas, South West Rocks, Arakoon, Oceanside and New Entrance. Arakoon is located to the east of South West Rocks near Trial Bay Gaol and Little Bay. New Entrance is located to the west of South West Rocks on a ridge just to the east of the Macleay River at the river mouth. Oceanside is located at the entrance to South West Rocks, south of the main town area. A new area for South West Rocks has been proposed for the land around saltwater creek, south of Arakoon, which will house a new shopping centre and around a thousand more houses. Council is yet to approve this application

There are two pre-schools located at South West Rocks, as well as Govenment primary school. There is no high school at South West Rocks, despite the efforts of the Lower Macleay Valley High School Association. High school students travel to Kempsey every day to one of the three high schools, Melville High School, Kempsey High School or St Paul's Catholic College. Primary school students also travel to St Josephs Primary School.
