St Mark's tower
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St Mark's Tower is a fortification on the island of Malta built by the Knights of Malta. It is a small fortification, primarily a watchtower. It is also known as Qaliet Marku tower.
It stands on Qrejten Point on the north shore of Malta.
It is one of a chain of towers that permitted communication between Gozo and the Knights headquarters in Valletta. The oldest of these towers, the Wignacourt tower in St. Paul's Bay (named after the Grandmaster Wignacourt who erected it), has recently been restored and is in good condition. Perhaps the best known of the towers is the one on Tower Road (which is named after it) in Sliema - it is now a restaurant. It is popularly known to the Maltese as "It-Torri", meaning "The Tower".
To the west St. Mark's Tower has sight of Ghallis Tower, and to the east Madliena tower
The tower still stands and appears to be in reasonable condition.
