"Start!" is a song by The Jam which reached #1 on the UK singles chart in August 1980.
Written by Paul Weller and produced by Peter Collins it was the lead single from the band's fourth album Sound Affects. Released on 23rd August 1980 it debuted at #1 the following week. Backed by the B-side "Liza Radley", it became the bands second #1 single following Going Underground.
Showcasing a more experimental style than previous recordings it is based around both the main riff and bass riff of The Beatles' 1966 song "Taxman" from the album Revolver.
