Steve Appleton

Steve Appleton (born 1960) is the CEO of Micron Technology, based in Boise, Idaho.
He was a nationally ranked tennis player while studying at Boise State University. A 1996 BusinessWeek article says Appleton broke his right wrist - and quickly learned how to play using his left hand.
Appleton started at Micron immediately after graduation in 1982 - working the graveyard shift in production. The future CEO set his sights on management at the company - and achieved his goal in 1994, at age 34.
Appleton was fired from the company in January of 1996 - replaced by Tyler Lowrey, in what some would call a coup d'etat. He was reinstated just eight days later, after a change of heart by Lowrey.
Appleton is an avid pilot and owner of several stunt planes, and has performed at many airshows. He was in an airplane crash July 8, 2004 while practicing aerobatic maneuvers south of Boise. He and another person, who was filming the maneuvers from inside the aircraft, were seriously injured.
