[edit] Plot summary
When Rupert is ruined in the park by a dog, Stewie is extremely miserable. But once Lois fixes Rupert, Stewie immediately becomes attached to her and finally deceides to abandon his murderous plans towards her. He eventually gets on her nerves, which leads to her having a bad dream of homicidal thoughts about him, so she turns to Brian in an attempt to calm her down.
Meanwhile, Peter goes to see the doctor for a flu vaccine, but he is informed that he needs a prostate exam. However, his exam is not what he expects. Thinking that Hartman is trying to molest him by reaching into his butt, Peter becomes incredibly sad. No matter how much he is told by people like Lois and Hartman that it was just a prostate exam, he refuses to believe that. Trying to find revenge, Peter takes Hartman to court and wins the case. Hartman loses his medical license, and Peter believes himself to be victorious, until he begins needing to urinate frequently. He is suggested to get a prostate exam by Captain Seamus, but Joe thinks that Quahog is not going to trust Peter after that lawsuit...and neither will anyone out of town. Peter finally gives in and goes to see Dr. Hartman, who reveals the problem to just be some swelling (along with Mr. Sulu). Hartman gets his medical license back, and the episode ends in a parody of All in the Family.
[edit] Notes
- In the beginning of the episode Dr. Hartman performs the prostate exam with his right hand; however, in all subsequent prostate exams (including the grainy fake flashbacks) he is seen using his left hand.
- Someone other than Chris (Peter) sees the Evil Monkey (though Peter mistook him for Meg).
- A extended version of the "Mr. Nipple" scene with Peter and Stewie is shown on Adult Swim, where Peter puts his finger in Stewie's mouth, mistaking it for Lois' vagina.
[edit] Cultural references
- Robin the Boy Wonder is featured as the star of his own show, sans Batman. This makes the people he attempts to rescue worried and prompts them to point out that he has no powers. Robin counters by bringing out his cellular phone, which itself is rendered powerless because there are "no bars".
- When Peter is called a monster, he replies that "Frampton Comes Alive! 1976" was a monster and that everyone owned the album.
- In the flashback of Peter's passing of his exam, the song "I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man)" by Kenny Loggins is played.
- After being "molested", Peter is traumatized by Freddy Got Fingered, E.T., a Yellow Pages ad, Chris wearing a giant foam finger, and the Evil Monkey (whom he mistakes for Meg).
- Lois brings Stewie a Scooby-Doo yogurt and on the yogurt carton, Stewie mentions that Shaggy's eyes have been scratched out.
- During the flashback of Peter's "rape", he is thrown on a pinball machine. This is a reference to the rape scene in the movie The Accused. Also, when Peter pushed onto the grass and there was a carnival behind Dr. Hartman is a reference to the film Dr. Giggles. There is also a American History X reference when Hartman spanks and about to penetrate Peter.
- Stewie and Peter both speak Spanish at different times in the show. Stewie says to Brian "te mato perro feo ¿me entiendes estúpido? Tu eres un imbecil, te odio" (I am going to kill you, ugly dog. Do you understand me, stupid? You are an imbecile. I hate you!), and Peter answers "ocupado" (busy) when Chris knocks the bathroom door.
- Stewie's explanation for his speaking Spanish is that he fell asleep on Sábado Gigante, a popular Spanish-language variety television show.
- When Brian mocks Stewie for "loving" Lois, Stewie gets back at him saying Brian loves actress Olympia Dukakis, which he confirms.
- Stewie testifies against Michael Jackson, a reference to the 2005 molestation trial against him.
- Lois seems to initially reference Andrea Yates as a parallel to herself, then changes it to imply that Barbara Bush gave George W. Bush brain damage by holding him under water as a child.
- The eponymous characters from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde become "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Sulu" in a cutaway scene.
- Star Trek: The Original Series is referenced twice, once with the aformentioned Mr. Sulu segment and once with a Dr. Leonard McCoy scene. The Star Trek franchise had already been spoofed several times by Family Guy. It was notably done in episodes "I Never Met the Dead Man", "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" and "Peter's Got Woods" and the Family Guy movie Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story!.
- Mr. Sulu actor George Takei's coming out as a homosexual was parodied three times throughout the episode:
- When Mr. Jekyll turns into Sulu, he checks out a young man passing by and says "Hello!".
- When Dr. McCoy refuses to support Peter, Sulu passes by Peter while looking at his ass, saying "Hello!" in the same way as before.
- When Dr. Hartman notices a blockage whilst performing a second prostate examination on Peter, the same "Hello!" is heard.
- Kermit the Frog is shown to be a racist in a cutaway parody of the "The Rainbow Connection" sequence of The Muppet Movie. A black man from New Orleans asks a for a location, Kermit pulls his shotgun behind him to tell him that he should go back instead. It may also be a reference to the alleged heavy discrimination against Katrina evacuees.
- The end credits are an animated replication of the All in the Family end credit shot sequence, complete with the use of the actual All in the Family closing theme and scrolling credits in the show's lettering style.
- When Seamus the old pirate is showing Peter the random posters from his wooden arm, the last picture is of Primus. Other posters on his arm include one of Middle-earth, and a "Hang in There" cat poster.
- Stewie calls Lois a "female Bonnie Hunt", despite the fact that she is female.
- Peter watches an American Indian version of the 1970s sitcom What's Happening!!
- Chris mentioning that there is an Orange Julius at the mall where Peter might find a personal injury lawyer is a reference to the Simpsons episode "Burns' Heir" where lawyer Lionel Hutz is shown to have a mall office in close proximity to an Orange Julius stand.
- When Stewie tries to get Lois attention after she locked him in his room, he pulls out a US M3 Grease sub-machine gun from under his pillow and starts firing into the ceiling. Lois then askes Brian if she should go back into Stewie's room, to which Brian replies that Stewie is just acting melodramatic.
[edit] Goofs
- Jesus is shown to be quite small in modern time here, although he has been shown at regular height before in previous episodes.
- In the bar scene, Peter has all his hair, despite having mutilated it in the bathroom scene prior.
