- a hard stroke, hit or blow, e.g. as part of a spanking, as in trading swats; hence the verb: to swat
- a slang term for a block in basketball, mostly because the blocking actions in basketball are like swatting movements
- the related verb to swat means to hit or to beat off, e.g. insects, as with a flat instrument, hence fly swatter
