The Somoni (Tajik: сомонӣ) is the currency of Tajikistan. The ISO 4217 currency code is TJS. The somoni is divided into 100 diram. On October 30, 2000, the somoni replaced the Tajikistani ruble, at the rate of 1 somoni = 1,000 rubles. The currency is named after the father of the Tajik nation, Ismail Samani (or spelled Ismoil Somoni)

- Standard Catalog of World Coins: 1901-present, 31st ed. states that the composition for 5, 10, and 20 diram is brass clad steel, while the Central Bank states "bi-metal (cupro-zinc-steel-cupro-zinc)".
