Te Ana-au Caves
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Te Ana-au caves are located on the western bank of Lake Te Anau in the southwest of New Zealand.
The unofficial name used by the national caving association is Aurora. Since the caves lie in the Murchison Mountains, where the endangered takahe were rediscovered, a permit for access is required. Commercial guided tours by punt through the water-filled caverns are run on a regular basis.
This system of limestone caverns close to the lakeshore is home to glowworms.
