Welcome to my user page on Wikipedia. I hope you find these pages friendly and useful. I have had a revamp lately and yes, I am going to try and get a Esperanza User Page Award.

If you have any suggestions, ideas, recommendations, corrections and omissions, please feel free to edit this page or place suggestions on my talk page (nothing too technical mind, I only just learnt how to use tables and HTML!).

Introduction

Hi, my name is Gareth and this is my home user page. I believe in the freedom that Wikipedia offers, the flexibility and ease of editing and creation of new articles that attracted me to become a member of Wikipedia.

I tend to stick to editing articles because any new articles I have created either get speedy deleted or merged after a while (please discuss or give guidance on the talk page).

Note: with the exception of major new TV/Radio channel launches, I will now request all new artlcles via Wikipedia:Requested articles.

I generally keep to the media, especially television and radio, as well as the computing articles of Wikipedia. I do occasionally keep an eye out for vandalised articles and revert them to the previous untouched version of that article.

Believe it or not, it took me about 16 hours on and off to learn enough HTML and Wikitext to get the web design of the user pages looking as they do now (of this and the previous look). The basic idea for my user pages was to keep them simple, although it may look pretty in a number of shades of blue and black, the underlying purpose of the pages are to make finding out about me and my contributions to Wikipedia easy. They are also designed to look virtually the same regardless of which browser you use, so the concept of fairness to everyone who sees my user pages has also been applied in the design.

I will be undergoing cognitive behavioural therapy for my social anxiety. Before and during this time I may not be able to contribute to Wikipedia as often or as much as before.

Childhood and Education

tghe-retford was born on the October 6, 1983 at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop. I grew up in the town of Retford, only moving to Gainsborough between 1992 and 1994 when my mother and father set-up a public house called the Friendship Hotel. They moved back in 1994. After that, I have sinced lived in Woodbeck, near Retford, where Rampton Hospital is situated nearby.

I studied and have an interest in Media studies and Computing as part of my AS/A2-Level courses. I also studied Economics and Business and English Language AS Level courses.

I did also want to take my knowledge of Computing further by enroling on a HNC course at Doncaster College. Sadly, due to personal problems, I was unable to complete the course.

Interests
I enjoy jazz music, especially specialising in smooth jazz. I also use my computer a lot (we'll, too much!) and participate in discussions with other people regarding media, broadcasting, computing and the Internet. These are the articles I tend to stick to with Wikipedia. I also like to talk and socialise with people on Windows Live Messenger.

Favourite Music

I am a particular fan of Smooth Jazz but I also enjoy acid jazz, soul, R&B and anything I can be persuaded to.

I also listen to Smoothjazz.com. I did listen to 102.2 Jazz FM which closed down in 2005 and jazzfm.com, although sadly the station closed down on DAB Digital Radio in Yorkshire to make way for Yorkshire Radio. I also listen to RadioioJazz and I currently have around 20 radio stations bookmarked to listen to.

Vandalism

I have a policy of condeming all vandalism on Wikipedia, because it can be annoying, disruptive and frustrating to the editors and users of Wikipedia.

	WARNING: Vandalising Wikipedia: It's not big and it's not clever, don't do it!
	Vandalising Wikipedia is likely to get you blocked, or mocked, or both...

Forums
I also contribute and participate in the Digital Spy forums as tghe-retford. I usually participate in the media, broadcasting, computing and internet, radio, general discussion and chatter forums. I also participate in the Social Anxiety UK discussion boards, again as tghe-retford to discuss general topics and issues regarding my social anxiety.

Notes

^ This page will not render correctly on Internet Explorer 6 Security Version 1 and earlier. This also applies to all Trident-based browsers. This is due to an incompatibility with some transparency effects. Trident V (the Internet Explorer 7 layout engine) should fix this problem. My user page is best viewed with Mozilla Firefox and other recently released Gecko-based browsers or with the Opera web browser.
