[edit] Not of Barbadian descent
Theo Walcott is actually of Jamaican descent:
- But the 17-year-old's mother Lynn said the player was not related to Sir Clyde, as both grandparents were from Jamaica. "They never said they were from Barbados," Lynn, a British-born midwife who is married to Don Walcott, a second generation Jamaican, said recently. "They are from Jamaica. I always knew my husband's family was from Jamaica. All the brothers and sisters have been back to Jamaica except Don." Wendell Walcott, Theo's grandfather, moved to England from Jamaica in the 1950s. [1] [2]
[edit] Transfer speculation sources
I've rewritten these paragraphs (I assume the second was added later) and added a link:
- After his performance against Stoke former Saints manager Dave Merrington drew parallels with Arsenal's French striker Thierry Henry. The 30th October 2005 copy of the Mail On Sunday then linked Walcott with a bidding war between Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with bidding starting at £10 million next summer.
- Simon Peach, Daily Telegraph, Mail, Times, every paper in the world!
The Mail on Sunday article mentioned certainly isn't the first piece in the media linking Theo Walcott to bigger clubs. I've added a link to an article from the Guardian which isn't the first either but has some good general information and mentions the transfer speculation. [edit] Theo vis a vis inclusion in the England World Cup Squad 2006
I'd just like to say as a (currently drunk) Chelsea FC supporter, having seen Theo's skills on youtube, I am very, very excited that he could take the world by storm this summer. The English Pele? Gooners, I am extremely jealous! Beerathon 21:15, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, no article on Gooners yet? According to the papers today, Sven claims to have only ever seen Theo play on video before calling him up (never in person) is this a first for English football? --JamesTheNumberless 08:50, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Probably in the World Cup, yes, but I remember one big manager (Wenger or Ferguson, I think) made a signing after only seeing a few videos of a certain player (I'm a bit hazy on the details, but I remember reading about it a few times). Also, Eriksson probably had scouts watch, at the very least, his U19 appearance and his reserve matches. A very big gamble, though, but Eriksson will be a hero if it works out. If it doesn't work out... he's leaving anyway so life won't be that hard for him... =P – ugen64 19:29, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- Apparently Tord Grip watched him several times, and Arsene Wenger has been suggesting that he should be called up for England for a couple of months now. And with Wenger's history of spotting talent, that's a pretty cast-iron recommendation if ever there was one.--Ukdan999 20:43, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] International Appearances
Theo Wallcott has never made an international appearance[3], whoever keeps changing it to say he played for U17 stop it. Philc TECI 22:08, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well I'm not sure if it was the U-17's (and I'm not the one who keeps changing the article) but he has definitely played for England at some level because they showed footage of it on Sky Sports News earlier today! --Ukdan999 22:54, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Also, see this link [4] particularly the picture. I'm pretty sure he's not wearing that England shirt while just out doing his shopping.--Ukdan999 23:00, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, you have a fair point, apologies, I didn't realise you had any basis for this, and were just deleting conflicting statements. Well, now we have a very reputable organisation that seems to be conflicting with what appears to be true, what do we do, all the hard evidence points to him not having made an appearance, but like you said, he probably didnt where that shirt for shits and giggles. Philc TECI 23:06, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
At the time of writing he has one under 19 cap. --JamesTheNumberless 08:52, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Photo
There used to be a decent photo of him up on this page, I don't know why it was taken down, but it would be cool is someone could find a photo we could show up here legally.
May as well post a big Nike logo --JamesTheNumberless 08:53, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- No, I think a picture of Walcott would be better. -- Slumgum | yap | stalk | 09:41, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

- And you're right. Here I was expecting his visage to be the property of his sponsor by now, they're a little slow off the mark --JamesTheNumberless 22:41, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Previous clubs.
Pretty sure he was a youth player at Swindon between playing in Newbury and going to Southampton. Can anybody verify this?

- A Google search for walcott swindon [7] provides some evidence that he did.

[edit] Not related to Sir Clyde Walcott
Or, at least - he isn't according to Clyde Walcott. Gerry Lynch 09:15, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Birthplace
I have removed his place of birth as "London" and "West London", as there is conflicting data on the ever reliable internet. Half the pages I read state "Middlesex", the others state "Newbury, Berks". arsenal.com says Middlesex BTW. He still lives near Newbury, in Compton, but certainly half the WWW has got it wrong, so we play safe and say neither. Andymarczak 10:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I live in Compton Berkshire - and used to dodge him playing football in the street on my way home from work. He deffinatly grew up in Compton, and went to the Downs School Secondary school in the village. So i've added this. He does'nt live in the village now, although his family still do. User:keef30
[edit] 200.127.134.98, Theo Walcott Web & External Links
This IP address keeps removing all external links except for, seemingly, his own, Theo Walcott Web.
Theo Walcott Web is Argentinia based, contains no original content or information (duplicate content), website only launched very recently. non-authoritative source.
There are numerous other Walcott genuine fan sites that have been in existance long before Theo gained his recent fame. These sites contain original content and fan discusions, though not official fair more deserving of a link than Theo Walcott Web, which appears to be an opportunistic site spamming wikipedia for visitors. In fact parts of this very article were formed from information from these other sites, for example www.theo-walcott.org.uk.
Please see article history and comments. IP continues to spam wiki with his site.

Please state that Melanie Slade is Theo's gf. Prin S 12:05, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proposed merge of Melanie Slade into this article
There's some discussion on the Melanie Slade article as to whether she's notable enough for an article in her own right. I have, provisionally, suggested a merge into this article, as her relationship with Theo is the only reason for any notability she has (contextual notability). Comments here or on Talk:Melanie Slade please. — Estarriol talk 08:52, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

- Sepaate people with a link - Richard and Judy have two articles plus a joint one.... Posh and Becks have separate articles.... I'd keep it separate. Robertsteadman 08:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree the two articles should be kept seperate, if Melanie was only famous for being the Girlfriend of Walcott, than it should be merged however now she has modeled in the sun and other medium and as models have their own pages it would only be correct to give her own. It could be argued that she only became a model because she is Walcotts girlfriend however it does not matter as she now is a model Behind the veil
- Separate articles - Melanie attracts enough media interest by herself to justify a page, even if her fame came through Theo. I can see why, someone should get a picture. Tibi08 19:46, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Definition of "assists"
What definition are we using of "assists"? I'm aksing because although Walcott was crucial in Gilberto's goal on Saturday he did not get the last touch - and this was always how Fantasy Football defined assists when I used to play it about ten years ago! I think that Walcott's cross on Saturday is worthy of being called an assist; I'm just concerned that others might think otherwise and the stats table could get muddled. What official stats sources list assists for Premiership games? --Jim (Talk) 21:17, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- I thought this too. Assists are definitely something that needs a reference, because without one, the stats could be either (or both) POV or original research. sʟυмɢυм • т • c 21:21, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- OK, I've answered my own question. Check out [8]. It only seems to work in Internet Explorer, but it does provide full stats for Premiership players and teams going back to the year dot. It credits Walcott with an assist, so that's our reference. Case closed. --Jim (Talk) 21:23, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unencyclopaedic
The last paragraph under England National Team is very unencyclopaedic, especially this sentence: "If his first goal was magical, the second was sublime." !x0bile 07:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
