The Brothers Bishop is a 2005 novel by Bart Yates
Nathan Bishop is a gay high-school English teacher who lives in the small Connecticut town in the house in which he grew up. He teaches summer school to kids, and one of his students is an attractive and sexually-aware boy called Simon.
Nathan’s brother Tommy, comes to stay with his current boyfriend and a married couple, Kyle and Camille.
Tommy is soon strongly attracted to Simon. Kyle is a closet gay and the story involves the breaking up of the both the gay and straight relationships and the disastrous outcome. The Brothers Bishop also takes in the theme of abusive fathers and encompasses incest, child sexual abuse and attempted suicide. Headed toward trouble with his behaviour with Simon, the inevitable happens and tragedy ensues for both of the brothers.
