[edit] Storyline
The movie begins in Manhattan, New York, where the Cheetah Girls are performing "The Party's Just Begun" at a Graduation Party for the Manhattan Magnet's class of 2006, and The Cheetah's who are just ending junior year. Chanel and her mother [Juanita] are planning to go to Barcelona, Spain to meet Juanita's boyfriend Luc, for a month of their summer break. Chanel gets worried that she might have to start a new family and move to Barcelona if Luc proposes to her mother. Galleria assures her that everything will be alright, and Chanel asks Juanita if The Cheetahs can come with them, but she says no. The girls are down in the dumps about not being able to travel to Barcelona. Aqua spots a shooting star in the sky and they all wish that they could go to Barcelona. Suddenly, an ad for The Barcelona Music Festival, with the New Voices Competition for amateur singers opens up from the magazine. Galleria signs up the Cheetah Girls and the next day, Dorothea, Juanita, and The Cheetah Girls all end up at Luc's European villa. Everyone else but Chanel thinks that Luc is the perfect man for her mom, and she refuses to let him into the family. After the girls shopping spree ended, they meet Angel, a mysterious guitar player who accompanies them around Barcelona.("Strut") The girls audition for the festival and are accepted. The Cheetah Girls are introduced to Joaquin, a handsome dancer who begins to make a romantic relationship with Dorinda. He invites her to come to his studio and dance with him, and she accepts. Later at the studio, Dorinda learns to tango, and later promises to teach a hip-hop dance class. ("Dance with Me") Joaquin takes the Cheetahs to the Dancing Cat, a Spanish night club where all the new artists perform their songs. There they meet Spanish pop artist Marisol, who is also in the Music Festival and her manager/mother, Lola. ("Why Wait") Lola plans a scheme to get the Cheetah Girls to break up, as they are endangering her daughter's chance to win the competition and she wants Chanel to sing with her. ("A La Nanita Nana")Galleria notices that everyoen is getting involved in other activities except for her, and decides to just go home because she's the only focused person.(It's Over") Dorinda and Joaquin's relationship comes to a halt when she believes that he doesn't want to show her to other people except his dance friends. While at a train station, the other three girls find Galleria and sing "Amigas Cheetahs", the song she wrote. Galleria finally gives in and says she will only come back if they stay focused. They do a song that shows just how focused they are. ("Step Up")Juanita believes that Luc doesn't want to marry her because Chanel doesn't like him. Chanel, who heard the whole conversation with her mother and Dorothea, goes and apologizes to Luc about her behavior. Luc later proposes to Juanita and she gladly accepts. Luc tells Chanel that she can stay in New York for her upcoming senior year. At the dance studio, Joaquin tells Dorinda that he is broke and he didn't want to take the others to lunch because he just wanted to spend time with her. The other Cheetahs interrupt their conversation, and they awkwardly leave the scene, not wanting to ruin the moment. Dorinda apologizes for jumping to conclusions, and Joaquin asks her to enter a dancing competition with him in New York. She gladly accepts and they share a romantic kiss, which is shortly interrupted by Galleria. The girls perform at the Dancing Cat, but then something goes wrong. Lola gets the Dancing Cat's manager to give the Cheetah Girls money for their performance. According to the competition rules, it's only for amateurs, which the Cheetahs are not, since they accepted the money. Angel, who is present during the entire exchange investigates what actually happens. Upon discovering the truth, he informs his uncle, the Festival Director who reinstates the Cheetahs in the competition. As her mother protests this decision, Marisol stands up to her and quits. The grand finale ("Amigas Cheetahs") ends the competition, and the movie as the Cheetahs sing out and call the principal musical, singing, and dancing performers to the stage. The winner of the competition is never revealed, but the audience is led to believe it is the Cheetahs, however most of the movie's ending sequence leaves plenty of room for another sequel. And Luc tells Chanel that they would move back to New York for her upcomming Senior year.

[edit] Las Cheetah Girls 2 (Spanish Version)
The Disney Channel plans to welcome Spanish-speaking and Latino children to its audience like never before[citation needed] when it runs a Spanish-language version, with English subtitles, of The Cheetah Girls 2 during prime time on September 15.
The network plans a big marketing push in the Latino community behind "Cheetah" and its message of diversity.[citation needed]
Various names are used for the Cheetah girls in Spanish:
- Las Cheetah Girls
- Cheetah Girls ( Disney Channel Latin America)
- Las Chicas Guepardo (Disney Channel Spain)
[edit] Translation oddities
- In the scene at The Dancing Cat, after Marisol and Chanel finished singing A La Nanita Nana, Lola asks if any of them speak Spanish (English version). In the Spanish version, Lola asks if any of them were part Hispanic.
- In one scene, Chanel and her mother dress up properly and wait for Luc's family. But after the family comes out of the van, they see the family dressed up casually. Chanel says (in the English version), "I could've at least worn sandals." In the Spanish version, she says, "I should've worn the red gloves."
- When Galleria is trying to write a new song for the competition, she complains about learning a new song in Spanish, and how they couldn't sing in Spanish. But they are obviously speaking Spanish. (This is not exactly a blooper, since it was translated from English.)
[edit] Trivia
- This movie is co-choreographed by Kenny Ortega, the choreographer of High School Musical, the second highest rated opening movie on Disney Channel.
- The second Cheetah Girls is the highest rated DCOM ever.
- Raven, who plays Galleria in the Cheetah Girls movies, was an executive producer for The Cheetah Girls 2.
[edit] Goofs
- During the filming of the "Strut" music video, one of Raven's boot heels broke. [citation needed]
- Aqua's name is frequently changing from Aquanette to Aquanetta. Aquanetta was what Galleria's father, Franco, called her in the Cheetah Girls book series
- In one part of the music video, Dorinda is holding a video camera. In the next scene she does not have it anymore. She is dancing with the other girls, and the video camera is nowhere to be seen.
- In scenes where two people have a conversation (such as when Galleria was at the train station) the camera shows the face of the person talking. In some scenes, hair switches from behind and front of the head.
- In "Step Up", before Dorinda arrives, Aqua ties her shoes and stands up. However, when Dorinda enters, Aqua is still sitting down.
[edit] Disney Channel's most-viewed movie
The Cheetah Girls 2 amassed more than 7.8 million total viewers during its premiere—more than any program on TV that day. Cheetah Girls 2 even outdrew the debut of Disney's popular High School Musical, which brought in 7.7 million viewers in January 2006. It is the highest-rated original movie ever on the network (in total viewers), Cheetah Girls 2 also propelled The Disney Channel to its most-watched total day and primetime ever in total viewers. [5] To date, the movie has received a total of over 21 million viewers.
