The Game of Kings is the name of the 1961 novel written by Dorothy Dunnett about Scotsman Francis Crawford of Lymond. It is the first of the six novels comprising the Lymond Chronicles.
The novel highly regarded, and renowned for its wit and its complex and involving characterising, plot and writing.

Against the background of Henry VIII's Rough Wooing of Scotland, Francis Crawford of Lymond, mercenary and outlaw, returns from the continent to Edinburgh, Scotland, to attempt to hunt down the man who incriminated him, and to cause trouble for his family.
