The Golden One is the 14th in a series of mystery novels, written by Elizabeth Peters and featuring fictional sleuth and archaeologist Amelia Peabody.

In 1917, Ramses Emerson is called on to serve his country once more, by going incognito to Gaza to identify a man who may be his uncle -- but who may also be targeted for assassination by the British. Ramses gets more help than he bargained for when he discovers his parents and wife intend to follow him (in disguise, of course!) to provide backup.
Meanwhile, Cyrus Vandergelt and his adopted son Bertie search for a rumored cache in the hills above Deir el Medina.

The title of the book refers to the goddess Hathor:
