The Rocket (newspaper)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rocket was a free weekly newspaper which was published in Seattle and Portland, Oregon. Each city's issue contained mostly the same content with some slight variations, though occasionally the cover stories would be different. The newspaper's chief purpose was to document local music. It is no longer being produced.
The founder/publisher was Bob McChesney, who had been active at the alternative newspaper The Seattle Sun an alternative weekly newspaper that competed with The Weekly. The Rocket started out as a companion publication to the Sun.
During the 1980's & 1990's The Rocket was an indispensable guide to the Pacific Northwest music scene due to music making up the vast majority of its coverage, as opposed to other NW papers such as the Seattle Weekly or the Willamette Week which focused more on local news and politics.
