UFC 51: Super Saturday was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on February 5, 2005, (Super Bowl weekend) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was broadcasted live on pay-per-view in the United States and Canada, and later released on DVD. The event was to be held in Japan, but Dana White moved it back to Las Vegas. Headlining the card were fan favorites Tito Ortiz and Vitor Belfort. The total fighter payroll for UFC 51 was $456,000.[2]

[edit] Welterweight Bout: Nick Diaz vs. Drew Fickett
Diaz defeats Fickett by technical knockout (strikes) at 4:40 of round one.
[edit] Welterweight Bout: Karo Parisyan vs. Chris Lytle
Parisyan defeats Lytle by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 30-27 for Parisyan.

Loiseau defeats Ray by technical knockout (doctor stoppage) at the end of round one.

Kyle defeats Irvin by knockout (punches) at 1:55 of round one.

Buentello defeats Eilers by knockout (punches) at 3:34 of round one.

Evan Tanner defeats David Terrell by technical knockout (strikes) at 4:35 of round one. Tanner becomes the UFC Middleweight champion, and the first Middleweight champion since 2002. (See: List of UFC champions.)
[edit] Interim Heavyweight Championship Bout: Andrei Arlovski vs. Tim Sylvia

Andrei Arlovski defeats Tim Sylvia by submission (achilles lock) at :47 of round one. Arlovski becomes the Interim Heavyweight champion. The title is an interim championship due to current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Frank Mir being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident and could not defend the title against number 1 contender, Andrei Arlovski.

In the evening's swing bout, Sell defeats Baroni by submission (guillotine choke) at 4:19 of round three.
[edit] Light Heavyweight Bout: Tito Ortiz vs. Vitor Belfort
In the main event of the evening, Tito Ortiz defeats Vitor Belfort by split decision. The judges scored the bout 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29 for Ortiz.
