Vildanden is a virtual regional airline flying from Skien Airport, Geiteryggen. It started flying on January 24, 2005, and now flies up to three times daily to Bergen Airport, Flesland with an ATR-42-300 aircraft wetleased from Danish Air Transport's (DAT) Lithuanian subsidiary Danu Oro Transportas (DOT).
Vildanden only sells the tickets, while DOT actually operates the route. DAT owns a 15% stake in the company, while local investors own the rest. Routes are operated with DAT codes. The airline is considering expanding operations to Stavanger Airport, Sola and Trondheim Airport, Værnes.
The airline is named after the play The Wild Duck ("Vildanden" in Norwegian) written by Skien's greatest son, the poet Henrik Ibsen. The airline's slogan is "The shortest way between Ibsen and Grieg", a wordplay on the Bergen composer Edward Grieg's and Ibsen's names.
[edit] Fleet
Vildanden started off with a Jetstream 31, seating 19, wetleased from Coast Air. On October 30, 2005 the airline switched to its 48-seat ATR-42. The livery on the aircraft is the company's web address on the side, while the tail fin bears the company's duck logo, all in blue.
