The Wakato ferry beneath Wakato Bridge - it costs only 50 yen to cross from Tobata to Wakamatsu ward and vice versa, which takes just three minutes. It is the cheapest ferry ride in Japan. Bicycles can also be transported for an additional 50 yen. The ferry existed before the bridge was built and has been retained by the city for the convenience of pedestrians and cyclists, who are not allowed to use the bridge which is reserved for motor vehicles.

In August 2005 the ferries were used for cruising Dokaiwan for the first time, as the service is being privatised.
