Wamsutter is a town in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 261 at the 2000 census.

Wamsutter is the largest settlement in the Great Divide Basin.

Wamsutter is located at 41°40′15″N, 107°58′39″W (41.670839, -107.977457)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²), all land. It also is a wonerfully friendly and welcoming community, with core families owning the Conoco, Phillips truck stop and Sinclair.

The food at the Phillips truck stop is oustanding and, when it is open, the Broadway doeas a great job too!

Three state troopers, a deputy and town chief of police keep law and order here and will treat you right as long as you obey the law.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 261 people, 100 households, and 65 families residing in the town. The population density was 76.9/km² (198.7/mi²). There were 148 housing units at an average density of 43.6/km² (112.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.87% White, 0.77% Native American, 3.07% from other races, and 2.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.03% of the population.

There were 100 households out of which 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.25.

In the town the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 3.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 119.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 126.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $35,625, and the median income for a family was $46,250. Males had a median income of $34,643 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,943. About 11.4% of families and 10.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.6% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.

It is estimated that between 2006 and 2010, over five thousand people will have relocated to Wamsutter to work in the oil and gas industry. Domestic violence and drug use will surely increase. BP America, Inc. has a headquarters in Wamsutter, and the small town has seen rapid growth over the past two years.
