WBUL

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WBUL is one of the few fully student run radio stations in the state, where every aspect of the station's management is decided by students. WBUL ran its first show on May 23, 1988. In the past it has operated on a system called Cable FM, where a live video and audio signal is sent to every residence hall and Village building on the USF campus.

In the fall of 1997, WBUL changed locations from a small studio in the Andros Classroom to the lower level of the Phyllis Marshall Center, where it has upgraded to new equipment and a more visually appealing sound booth, where students make requests while they watch their favorite DJ's and listen to their favorite music. WBUL broadcasts on Cable Channel 6 in the Residence Halls.

WBUL has almost dissolved several times, but thanks to a strong, dedicated, and professional staff, WBUL has stayed up and running for nearly ten years. It had used its recent move to the Phyllis P. Marshall Center to stimulate growth in all areas, such as increasing involvement with the Department of Athletics, Campus Activities Board, Student Government, and Shriner's Children's Hospital. After many years without having a tower, in October of 1999, WBUL finally received its first AM tower and has been working to broadcast on the 1620 AM frequency! WBUL also continues to broadcast on the internet, one of the few college radio stations since March 1999 thanks to IT and Academic Computing for their generosity.
