WJSP-FM 88.1 is the Georgia Public Broadcasting radio station serving Columbus and all of west central Georgia. It shares a tower with GPB TV station WJSP-TV just outside of Warm Springs, its city of license. The station was one of the first GPB radio stations, signing on in 1984.
WJSP-FM only simulcasts the GPB radio network, with no local programs. For some years, the station was also heard in the Atlanta area on 100.7 FM via W264AE, until that broadcast translator was forced off the air by a commercial station, WWWQ-FM, which relocated from Anniston, Ala. on an adjoining frequency, 100.5 FM. This left the GPB headquarters city without its own station, but few have complained since most Atlanta-area public radio listeners overwhelmingly prefer WABE-FM, which is operated by the city's school board and not part of the GPB system.
